  • Only 6 basic ingredients – With just six basic ingredients – tomato sauce, canned butter beans, salt, sugar, smoked paprika, and burrata – this meal comes together in a flash. No chopping required! Simply reheat the sauce and beans and assemble your dish.
  • A flavorful feast – While the core ingredients are simple, the possibilities for toppings are endless. Add a sprinkle of basil for a burst of freshness, toasted pine nuts for a nutty crunch, or a sprinkle of olive oil for extra richness and indulgence.
  • 15 minutes – You just need to reheat and season the tomato sauce and the butter beans. The other big task is to pan-fry a slice of bread. Once plated, add the burrata and any additional garnishes of preference.
  • No chopping – Simply throw together the canned goods, season, and enjoy. No chopping is needed, which also means less cleaning up.
  • A nutrient-packed dinner – This dish is not only delicious but also nutritious. Each serving packs a powerful punch of protein (22 grams), making it a perfect choice for a post-workout meal or a satisfying dinner.

Ingredients

  • Butter beans – Creamy, buttery, and chunky, these are some of the most delicious types of beans. They are also a healthy choice of protein – read more.
  • Tomato sauce – This is one of the key ingredients, so opt for a good quality tomato sauce, such as the Italian Mutti brand. Get a blended tomato sauce, not tomato cubes in a sauce.
  • Sugar – Cuts through the acidity in the tomato sauce.
  • Salt – Balancea the sweetness and acidity.
  • Smoked paprika – Deepens the flavor of the tomato sauce and elevates the beans.
  • Burrata – Brings comforting creaminess. If you cannot find a vegan burrata alternative, try this Creamy burrata recipe.

Recipe variations

  • Change the legume – Although this is a butter beans recipe, you could use a different type of beans, including chickpeas, or even lentils would work in this recipe.
  • Make it heartier – This recipe would also go well with a pasta of choice, or with polenta (both creamy or fried).
  • No burrata – Anything from vegan creme fraiche to ricotta will be great substitution for burrata.
  • Add pesto – Make it crispy creamier, and heartier by adding a few dollops of pesto (such as this Pistachio pesto) when plating the dish.

Step by step instructions

Add the tomato sauce to the pan, and season with salt, sugar, and smoked paprika. Drain the butter beans and add them to the sauce. Warm up until bubbly.

Heat up another small pan with a teaspoon of olive oil. Pan-fry a slice of bread on both sides.

Add the beans and tomato sauce to a plate. Add a drained burrata on top.

For maximal flavor and texture, garnish with olive oil, fresh basil, and pine nuts.
