We’re Darja & Tanja, partners in life and in the kitchen. Our love for food and curiosity about plant-based nutrition inspired us to dive deeper into plant-based cooking. Darja holds the Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies, ensuring every recipe is backed by evidence-based nutrition as well as great taste.

The love for our planet, health, and well-being has led us to a plant-forward diet, which has been a journey from the heavy meat-based eating cultures in which we grew up. We’ve learned (and are still learning) so much along the way, and we want to share, inspire, and support fellow travelers on this path.

Our philosophy

Plant-based eating doesn’t have to mean hours in the kitchen or breaking the bank. We believe in using seasonal, local ingredients where possible, and boosting flavor with herbs, spices, and simple condiments like Hemp seed dressing,
Pistachio Pesto, 5-minute Salsa With Jalapeno, and Gochujang Kimchi.

Impressive food doesn’t need to be complicated. With a little creativity, you can create simple, yet vibrant meals that nourish your body and soul – like Curried butter beans, High-protein vegan pasta, or Rice paper rolls with smoked tofu.

And a plant-based diet doesn’t mean going hungry. While vegetables are essential, a balanced plate includes legumes for protein and fiber, healthy fats for energy, and complex carbohydrates for sustained fuel. That’s why you’ll find recipes like
Creamy Leek Pasta With Butter Beans, Kale and Chickpea Salad – Dressed in Dreamy Gochujang TahiniVegan Aubergine Schnitzel, Vegan Poke Bowl and Easy Aubergine Stir Fry.

We’re also passionate about fermentation, from sourdough bread to kombucha and kimchi, we love fermentation as a way to preserve food, support gut health, and add bold flavors. We’ve developed a detailed step-by-step Vegetable Fermentation course.

Plant based Recipe development

Our cooking style is all about balancing flavors and textures. Sweet, salty, spicy, and sour — layered together to create meals that taste far more complex than the time it took to make them.

Flavor matters: Salt and fat are the dynamic duo of flavor. They’re the foundational elements that transform ingredients into unforgettable dishes. Even the fanciest ingredients won’t taste good if not properly seasoned. Don’t shy away from generous amounts of salt; experiment with salting individual components to unlock their full potential. Fat, too, is essential. Rich, creamy hummus is a testament to this: tahini and olive oil are the secret to its luscious texture (see our Beet Hummus Recipe). A simple can of chickpeas becomes extraordinary when these flavor-boosting elements are added. Just as a great dressing elevates a salad, a cashew sauce (as used in our Cabbage Steaks With Vegan Nacho Sauce and Vegan Cacio e pepe,) can elevate any roasted vegetable, enhancing its taste, nutritional value, and overall appeal.

Texture is key: We strive to incorporate a variety of textures in our dishes, from crunchy to creamy soft to chewy. A brilliant piece of advice we’ve encountered is to construct meals in layers, much like nachos, starting with a base and building with contrasting textures (by Joshua McFadden). The satisfying crunch of a topping (like this savory granola or creamy cabbage and leeks topped with crispy panko breadcrumbs) elevates any dish, especially when balanced with softer elements, for a truly delightful experience. Whether it’s a creamy sauce or a gooey center, these contrasting textures create a satisfying and memorable vegetarian and plant based recipe.
