If you love peanut butter, you’ve just found your new favorite recipe.

Indulge in the creamy, nutty goodness of our no-banana peanut butter smoothie. This decadent yet nutritious beverage is a perfect way to start your day or satisfy your afternoon cravings.

In our attempt to eat more local food, we’ve been searching for banana substitutes in smoothies. Oats have exceeded our expectations, offering a delightful and nutritious alternative. The oat flavor is not too overpowering and they provide a subtle texture and contribute to the peanut butter smoothie thickness.

Using five wholesome ingredients, this smoothie is both healthy and easy to make. It is rich in protein, fiber, and healthy fats. With a preparation time of just five minutes, it’s perfect for a quick breakfast or an afternoon snack.

If peanut butter is your love language, these are your next crush:

Ingredients

  • Peanut butter – We like using smooth peanut butter, made from 100 % peanuts without sugar or salt. Blending it with water will give it a creamy consistency.
  • Maple syrup – Adds sweetness and caramel-like flavor, making this peanut butter so addictively tasty.
  • Pinch of salt – Brings all the sweet and savory flavors to the surface.
  • Oats – Thicken the smoothie. Fine oats will be easier to break down and create a smooth consistency of the smoothie. Oats are a nutritious option for breakfast and if you are a fan, you may enjoy our Strawberry Matcha Overnight Oats (High-Protein).
  • Water – Adds volume to the peanut butter smoothie.

Recipe alterations

  • Add cocoa powder – Peanut butter and chocolate are an excellent combination. By adding in a tablespoon of pure cocoa powder, you can turn this recipe into a chocolate peanut butter smoothie.
  • Add fruit jam – On the sides of the serving glass – peanut butter and jelly probably doesn’t need an introduction. Take a tablespoon of raspberry or blueberry jam and spread it on the walls of the serving glass, then pour over the peanut butter smoothie. This will make a stunning visual effect, as well as add a slightly tart note to contrast the richness of the smoothie.
  • Add spices – Vanilla, Cinnamon, and Coconut would work particularly well with the peanut butter.
  • Protein Boost – Add a scoop of protein powder for an extra nutritional boost.
  • Replace oats – to reduce carbs and increase protein, replace the oats with two tablespoons of Greek yogurt.
  • Go nuts – Experiment with different nut butter. If you are interested in a comparison of the health benefits and nutritional profiles of different nut butters, see this article.

Tips for Success

  • Blend it for five 3-4 minutes, to ensure the oats have completely broken down. Make sure that your blender is not overheated and take a break in between blending if that is the case. This will give it a smooth consistency and will create a layer of lovely foam on top of the smoothie.
  • Taste it before serving it and adjust the salt, sweetness, and peanut butter amounts, if needed.
  • In the summer, it’s nice to throw in a few ice cubes while blending it.

How to make the peanut butter smoothie

Without the need to pre-soak anything, this smoothie recipe is straightforward. You throw all ingredients into the blender simultaneously and blend for about 4 minutes. It’s done when the oats are completely resolved, and the smoothie has reached a smooth consistency. Blending it for several minutes will result in a creamy smoothie texture.

Dip a spoon in peanut butter. Make peanut butter marks on the inside of the glass. Pour the smoothie into the glass. The marks will remain untouched because the peanut butter is thicker and fattier than the rest of the smoothie.
